A structure fire in Lahaina displaced two families on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 3:52 p.m. at Kanakea Loop. Engines from Lahaina, Napili and Kihei; a ladder company from Lahaina; and a hazmat crew from Kahului responded to the incident, along with a battalion chief, fire investigator and a health and safety air and light truck.
The blaze was brought under control at 4:40 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and because of the hazards at the location, the investigation likely won’t be completed until today, the Fire Department said.
Two families were displaced due to the fire and smoke damage. The Red Cross has offered them assistance.
No injuries to residents or first responders were reported.
One structure with an attached ohana suffered “substantial damage,” the Fire Department said. The dollar value of the property damage is still to be determined.
