Fire damages service station
Damage was estimated at $250,000 in an early-morning fire Sunday that damaged a service station and storage facility in Lahaina.
The fire was reported at 12:58 a.m. at 222 Papalaua St., with firefighters arriving to find the storage container or shed behind the service station in flames, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Firefighters entered through the front of the service station to extinguish the fire that spread from the exterior and managed to prevent the fire from spreading into the adjacent two-story storage building, the Fire Department reported.
The fire was brought under control at 2:22 a.m.
Its cause is under investigation.
The damage was described as moderate to the service station at $200,000 and minor to the exterior of the storage facility at $50,000.
Lahaina engine, ladder and tanker companies responded, along with a Napili engine company, Kahului Hazmat and rescue crews and a battalion chief.
