The Maui News

A high-surf advisory for south-facing shores of Maui County is in effect until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.

Surf is anticipated to reach 6 to 10 feet for south-facing shores of all islands.

Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous, weather service officials said.

Weather information can be found at weather.gov/hawaii or by calling (866) 944-5025.

The forecast for today for the central valley is sunny and warm with northerly winds up to 10 mph, shifting to the northeast in the afternoon.
