Man held for intentional collision

A 39-year-old Kihei man was arrested in an attempted murder investigation after a collision involving a pedestrian and truck Tuesday night in Kihei, police said.

Kihei patrol officers were dispatched to the collision at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday fronting 175 E. Lipoa St.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old Kihei man, was found on the shoulder of the roadway after the truck had fled the area, police said. Medics treated the pedestrian, who was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for additional treatment.

After reviewing evidence and video surveillance, police said it was determined that the collision was intentional and not accidental. The 39-year-old man’s vehicle was linked to the collision, police said.

He was arrested at 9:29 a.m. Wednesday, with charges pending, police said.
