Haliimaile fire 100 percent contained
A brush fire that began late Tuesday night and grew to 4,300 acres has been 100 percent contained as of 1 p.m. today, the Maui Fire Department said.
Two engine companies and two MFD tankers remain on scene to continue mop-up operations.
The fire was first reported at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the makai side of Haliimaile Road near the Maui Trap & Gun Club Range. By Wednesday afternoon it had reached 1,900 acres, and on Thursday it more than doubled to 4,300 acres.
It damaged numerous utility poles in the area but no other structures.
