Kihei brush fire 100% contained
A brush fire was declared 100 percent contained Tuesday morning after burning about 50 acres above Piilani Highway in Kihei, a fire official said.
Fire crews were conducting mop-up operations in the fire reported at 2:27 p.m. Monday in the area between Ohukai Street and Lipoa Parkway.
Six fire companies, the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter and private bulldozers and water tankers responded to fight the fire. By 9 p.m. Monday, it was 90 percent contained, the Fire Department reported.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, said Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.
