Paddle Imua goes global for 2020
Imua Family Services is unable to hold Paddle Imua in its traditional format this year because of restrictions on large special events. As an alternative, it will present the Paddle Imua Global Challenge Friday-Sunday. Athletes around the globe can paddle out wherever they are and continue to support children with special needs on Maui by participating in this virtual event.
Registrations have come in from around the world, according to a news release. The youngest participant is 13-year-old Dive Kuramoto from Hiroshima, Japan.
Paddlers will post images, videos, stories and blogs of their Paddle Imua experience over social media, and each participant will receive the official Paddle Imua swag — either via mail or pickup for Maui participants.
To register, visit www.paddleimua.com.

In addition to Maui Food Bank, the promotion includes food banks throughout Hawaii.
Submissions sought for parks contest
In recognition of National Parks & Recreation month in July, the County of Maui Department of Parks & Recreation is conducting a facility photo and haiku poem contest open to both children and adults. The contest theme is: “Why do I Love Maui County Parks & Recreation Facilities?”
Contest participants are asked to submit their favorite photo of a Maui County Parks & Recreation facility, along with a summary of why they love that picture. Contestants may also submit a poem written in the traditional haiku style about a parks and recreation facility. (A haiku poem has three short lines. The first and last lines have five syllables, and the middle line has seven syllables.)
There will be three contest categories broken down into six age divisions. Goody bag prizes will be awarded to the winners.
July 31 is the deadline for submissions. Visit www.mauicounty.gov/412 for contest rules and acknowledgment form.
