Man faces again attempted murder
WAILUKU — A Paia man again is charged with attempted murder in the beating of another man at Paia Bay last year.
Troy Borge Jr., 28, pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted murder during his arraignment Wednesday in 2nd Circuit Court.
He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending a court hearing Monday.
Borge was arrested after a Maui County grand jury returned an indictment Friday charging him with second-degree attempted murder of 25-year-old Briar Lee Brossart.
Police said he suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit with a wooden stick or club the night of Nov. 5 near the Paia Youth & Cultural Center.
Brossart was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was in a coma until Nov. 22, according to court records.
Borge previously was charged with attempted murder, but the charge was dismissed without prejudice in April after a judge ruled that excessive hearsay was presented to a grand jury that returned the indictment.
The prosecution then charged Borge with first-degree assault in the beating. Borge was released on $5,000 cash bail before being arrested Tuesday on the attempted murder charge.
A Sept. 28 trial was set for Borge.
