Three fireworks citations issued

Police issued three fireworks citations, recovered 26 aerial fireworks and extinguished a fireworks-related brush fire as part of special enforcement over the Fourth of July weekend.

More than a dozen Maui Police Department officers in various locations participated in the Fireworks Enforcement Detail.

The officers generated 18 cases, including responding to a brush fire north of the Hooli Street and Leialii Parkway intersection in Lahaina. Officers extinguished the fire in a 50-by-50-foot area of dry brush that burned as a result of fireworks, police said. No damages or injuries were reported.

Police thanked community members who helped officers by taking the time to report the use of illegal fireworks.
