First photo: Maui Police Department officers lead a funeral motorcade during an “end of watch” ceremony for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Special Agent John Bost III at Kahului Airport Tuesday afternoon. Also taking part in the final salute to the agent who died July 28 were personnel from the Sheriff Division, TSA, DEA, FBI, Kahului Airport Fire, Airport Police, National Guard, state Department of Land and Natural Resources, National Park Service and Securitas. MPD Chief Tivoli Faaumu said Bost worked closely with the department and played an instrumental role in many investigations. “He was assigned to Maui when I first became chief,” Faaumu said. “He was supposed to go home, but stayed to work a case with us and this tragic accident happened.” Bost’s remains were being flown home to North Carolina where he is to be laid to rest with full honors. He died from a wound sustained in what an initial investigation indicates was the accidental discharge of a rifle at MPD’s Kihei station. The incident remains under investigation.
