Fire causes $30,000 in damage

A fire in an upstairs bedroom of a Spreckelsville residence caused an estimated $30,000 in damages Thursday morning, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Paia and Makawao engine companies, along with Kahului hazmat and rescue crews responded to the fire reported at 9:37 a.m. on Nonohe Place.

Fire crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story residence and quickly contained the small fire, according to the Fire Department. The fire was brought under control at 10:15 a.m. and extinguished at 1:36 p.m.

Damage was estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to its contents.

The cause was undetermined.
