Hanging death under investigation
There has been a lot of discussion on social media regarding the death of Julian Heyward III on Aug. 10, who was reportedly found hanged on his Haiku porch.
A post reportedly from his son, Julian Jr., said his dad was 67 and had been missing since Aug. 5. He noted that police have initially ruled the death a suicide but questioned the finding. The family was working with authorities and looking to hire an attorney and private detective, the post said.
Police spokeswoman Lt. Audra Sellers said Friday that Heyward was found at about 6:36 p.m. Aug. 10. An autopsy was conducted, and police are awaiting a toxicology report, she said.
“Maui Police Department continues to investigate the death of Mr. Heyward III,” she said. “We ask that the public allow us to conduct the investigation unimpeded.
“Thus far, nothing has indicated foul play. Everyone we have spoken to thus far has cooperated, and at this point it is an active and open case.”
