County building lit to honor Mexico

The Kalana O Maui county building will be lit green, white and red, the colors of the Mexican flag, tonight from 8 to 10 in celebration of Mexican independence.

The building also was lit in those colors Tuesday night.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated Sept. 16 and marks the date in 1810 when Mexico declared its independence from Spain.

“I’m pleased to make this tribute to the people of Mexico at the request of the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco,” Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino said. “We also honor the community contributions of residents of Maui County who have Mexican roots or family ties.”
