Enforcing a ‘no parking’ zone on Hana Highway

Maui police have been stepping up parking enforcement of the stretch of Hana Highway between the entrance to Baldwin Beach Park and Lower Paia Park. More than 10 signs went up recently along that stretch of highway, said police Lt. Audra Sellers on Friday. Police have been doing special enforcement in the area with drum circle events, people crossing the highway unsafely and abandoned vehicles in the area. A police officer was observed ticketing parked vehicles last week. The number of vehicles parking on the grass on the side of the road has decreased in recent weeks, though there were four cars and one abandoned vehicle parked next to the bicycle path Friday. Parking citations result in a $35 fine.
