Suspect in stabbing is apprehended
The suspect in a stabbing in Haliimaile on Tuesday evening was in police custody Thursday and was being held on a $500,000 warrant for attempted murder in the second degree, police said Thursday afternoon.
Maui police apprehended Kaikala Young, 26, of Kihei on Wednesday after he fled the scene of a stabbing that was reported around 6 p.m. Tuesday at the tennis courts at Haliimaile Park. A 32-year-old man suffered stab wounds and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said.
Lt. Audra Sellers confirmed Thursday that Young had been at the Kealii Ocean Villas area Wednesday. Police records show police were dispatched at 3:31 p.m. to Kealii Ocean Villas Building C at 22 Pahoe Lane in Kihei.
On the Maui Police Department Facebook Page on Wednesday evening, police said that Young had been apprehended and that there were no injuries reported or sustained by Young or police.
Police said Young allegedly fled Haliimaile Park in a sedan which was later recovered by police. The sedan had been abandoned.
Police then put out a news release asking for the public’s help in locating Young and indicating that he may be armed with a firearm.
