Inmate arrested for bedsheet assault
WAILUKU — An inmate was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer with a bedsheet at the Maui Community Correctional Center.
Crystal Keiser, 35, of Lahaina pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault during her initial appearance Friday in Wailuku District Court. Her bail was set at $1,000.
According to a declaration filed in court to support the charge, Keiser yelled and swore at the corrections officer at 7:15 p.m. in the recreational room at the Wailuku jail. Keiser was in the day room area of the cellblock when she “whipped her bedsheet” at the officer, the declaration says.
The sheet went around the officer’s neck and struck her left eye, causing pain, according to the declaration.
Keiser was in jail after she was arrested Nov. 6 and charged with attempted first-degree assault, abuse, reckless driving, fourth-degree criminal property damage and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug. Her bail was set at $11,000.
In that case, Keiser allegedly hit a man with a vehicle in Lahaina, Deputy Prosecutor Mike Kagami said at a 2nd Circuit Court hearing Tuesday.
Keiser has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
