Kahului residents lose power

About 1,330 Hawaiian Electric customers in Kahului lost power around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

All customers were brought back online around 4:20 a.m., officials at Hawaiian Electric said.

Cause of the service interruption was being assessed Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Maui Waena Intermediate School’s fire alarm went off around the time of the power outage, officials at the state Department of Education said.

There was no fire, but a possible power surge may have tripped the system on, school officials said.
