Farm tours kick off campaign

Lokelani ‘Ohana, a nonprofit that creates socially therapeutic programs for the Maui community, will kick off its $140,000 fundraising campaign from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with farm tours at its 2315 Kahekili Highway location in Wailuku. Sale items will include produce, weavings, rose oil, biodynamic cotton stuffed pillows and creative arts products. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, call (808) 344-4338.

Virtual gardening course planned

The Maui Master Gardener Advisory Board is introducing a virtual 14-week master gardening course from February through May, 2021. Five urban garden horticultural programs statewide will collaborate in lieu of in-person classes unless the state and counties lift/modify COVID-19 restrictions.

The course will be on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It covers a full complement of academic horticultural training. Lectures will be provided by UH CTAHR faculty, extension specialists, county extension agents and recognized volunteer community horticultural leaders. The program includes hands-on experience through a class project and volunteer service after completion of the academic training.

Application requests are due Friday by emailing Eric DeMaria at mauimgco@hawaii.edu. There will be a virtual “Open House” at 5 p.m. Dec. 3. Applicants are required to participate in a phone/Zoom interview. Decisions will be announced in January.

Transgender day of remembrance set

A Transgender Day of Remembrance on Maui will be held via Zoom from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday.

Sponsors Maui Aids Foundation, Aloha Maui Pride, Maui Equality Coalition and Mental Health America of Hawaii invite anyone who is transgender, LGBTQ+, straight, allies, family or friends to join the Zoom gathering.

The gathering commemorates all transgender people lost to violence.
