Man rescued, flown to hospital after fall

A California visitor was airlifted to the hospital after falling from a waterfall in East Maui on Monday afternoon.

Emergency responders received the call at 1:10 p.m. from Mile Marker 6 along Hana Highway, near Bamboo Forest, according to the Maui Fire Department. The victim, a 41-year-old man from California, had fallen about 20 feet from a waterfall onto rocks below. The man sustained multiple injuries.

The department’s Air One helicopter carried the man to a landing zone, where he was transferred to AirMed One and flown to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition, the Fire Department said.
