West Maui under brown water advisory
The Maui News
The state Department of Health issued a brown water advisory for West Maui on Thursday morning, citing heavy rain that’s led to stormwater runoff in coastal waters.
The department advised the public to stay out of floodwaters and stormwater runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.
Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, but if the water is brown, the public should stay out. The department also advised people to continue practicing good personal hygiene and follow up with their primary care physician if they have any health concerns.
