Police launch online reporting

The Maui Police Department is starting an online reporting system that allows people to submit certain nonemergency reports immediately and print copies of the reports.

The Citizens Online Police Reporting System can be used for nonemergency incidents occurring in the county when there is no physical evidence to turn over to police, according to a police news release.

In an emergency, people should call 911.

The online police report filing system can be reached by going to www.mauipolice.com and selecting the “Online police report” icon. An informational sheet with instructions will appear. From there, a link directs users to a list of incident types with definitions and examples of reports that can be filed online.

The types of reports that can be filed online include criminal property damage not exceeding $1,500, harassment that doesn’t cause injury, lost property and theft of property or services not exceeding $750.

If the type of incident isn’t listed, people can call the police nonemergency number at 244-6400 to file a report.
