Town halls to discuss West Maui plan
The Maui News
Maui County Council Member Tamara Paltin will host a virtual town hall on the final phase of the West Maui Community Plan update at 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Jan. 30.
Representatives from the county Planning Department and other officials also will participate in the town halls, which will include presentations on:
• The community plan updating process and purpose.
• Tips for navigating the wearemaui.org website.
• How to review the draft plan and provide feedback.
• The benefits of adopting the plan before the budget session.
After the presentations, there will be time for questions and answers as well as discussion, Paltin said in a news release Tuesday.
The plan has been reviewed by the West Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee and the Maui Planning Commission and is now up for final discussion and adoption by the council. It was last updated in 1996 and provides a long-range guide for values and goals in West Maui.
“I hope to be able to expedite the review of the plan by taking it up as soon as our committee begins its work this term,” said Paltin, who holds the West Maui residency seat.
She added that the town halls are an early opportunity for the public to learn more and give input on the draft plan.
