Monthly siren test takes place Monday

The monthly test of the statewide outdoor warning siren system and the live audio broadcasting system will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. Monday, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency announced.

All warning sirens will sound the one-minute tone used to alert the public during emergencies, along with a simultaneous test of the live audio broadcast system. There will be no exercise or drill accompanying the test.

Tests of civil defense sirens and the Emergency Alert System normally take place on the first working day of the month.

In the event of a real emergency, the public is advised to check local radio, television and/or cellular Wireless Emergency Alerts for information and instructions. The wireless alert system delivers sound-and-text warnings to compatible mobile phones.

Emergency management and disaster preparedness information is located at the front section of telephone directories in all counties. To report siren issues to the Maui County Emergency Management Agency, call 270-7285.
