Wind advisory extended till today
A wind advisory for portions of Maui County and Hawaii island has been extended until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
East winds of 20 to 30 mph with localized gusts up to 50 mph are expected in parts of Maui, Molokai, Kahoolawe and Hawaii island.
Winds this strong can down temporary structures and trees and cause localized power outages, the weather service said.
Residents are advised to use extra caution when driving, avoid walking under trees and secure loose outdoor objects.
