Man gets jail time for violating health rules
A man was sentenced to a two-day jail term after he was arrested Wednesday in Kahului for violating public health emergency rules by not wearing a face mask.
Jeremy Tomashek, 40, had been warned to wear a mask several times during previous contacts with police, according to a declaration filed in court to support his arrest.
He was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday after an anonymous caller reported suspicious activity at West Kamehameha Avenue. When police made contact with Tomashek, he refused to wear a mask and ran before police arrested him at Kahului Pool, according to the declaration.
He pleaded no contest to violating public health emergency rules when he appeared Thursday in Wailuku District Court.
