Maui housing bill subject of webinar
A Maui bill to increase affordable housing requirements will be the subject of a free webinar by the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii at noon on Monday.
David Arakawa, executive director of the Land Use Research Foundation of Hawaii; Stanford Carr, president of Stanford Carr Development; and Pamela Tumpap, president of the Maui Chamber of Commerce will be panelists.
They will discuss why a measure being considered by the Maui County Council to require fast-track housing projects to have 75 percent affordable units will likely disincentivize home development and impose a burden on Maui taxpayers rather than produce more affordable housing, the institute said.
They will also discuss policy options that would be more likely to increase the supply of housing on Maui.
Grassroot Institute President Keli’i Akina will moderate the webinar, and institute Executive Vice President Joe Kent will field questions from the audience.
