MFD ends search for missing hiker

The Maui Fire Department has ended the search for a second hiker who has been missing in the Waikamoi area since Saturday.
The two hikers had reportedly gone in search of a waterfall in East Maui on Saturday afternoon. When they didn’t return, a person waiting for them called police for assistance.
At the time, heavy rains, flooding and flash flooding were reported in the area, the Fire Department said. Ground crews, a rescue boat and a helicopter joined the search.
On Sunday, crews recovered the body of one hiker, 27-year-old Angelo Ruiz of New Mexico, about 50 yards offshore in the area where Waikamoi Stream enters the ocean.
They continued looking for the second hiker before bringing the search to an end Tuesday evening.
