Fire burns 1.5 acres near Lanai Airport

Firefighters extinguished a brush fire that burned about 1.5 acres near Lanai Airport on Monday.

The fire was reported at 3:31 p.m. at FAA Access Road and Kamalapau Highway west of the airport, the Maui Fire Department reported. The fire was brought under control at 4:49 p.m. and extinguished at 7:01 p.m. Its cause is under investigation.

Light winds and clear skies were reported at the time of the fire.

Lanai engine and tanker crews and a state airports wildland unit responded to the fire.
