High surf advisory extended to Thursday

A high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai has been extended through 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Waves of 8 to 12 feet are expected as the current north-northeast swell holds fairly steady through today before slowly declining Thursday through the weekend.

Strong break waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents can make swimming difficult and dangerous, the weather service said.
