Inmates recover, no active cases at jail

The Maui Community Correctional Center reported no active COVID-19 cases Monday, with the recovery of the last two inmates who had the virus.

“The facility is completely clear of all active COVID-19 cases,” the state Department of Public Safety reported in the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center Daily News Digest.

Since Feb. 1, 94 inmates and two staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Wailuku jail. All have recovered, the department reported. On Monday, 170 inmates were in quarantine at the jail.

On April 5, 311 inmates were housed at the jail, which has an operational capacity of 301 and a design capacity of 209.
