Ululani’s to host book signing event

Waikupu residents and authors Jenny Coon and Nicki Barsamian will sign copies of their newest children’s book, “Huli the Hawaiian Chicken: Searches for Snow,” from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice shop in Kihei.

Coon and Barsamian established the Waikapu Publishing Company with the launch of their first book, “Huli the Hawaiian Chicken: Dances on the Moon” in 2020. “Huli the Hawaiian Chicken: Searches for Snow” is the long-awaited sequel.

A percentage of every book sale will go directly to support Imua Family Services.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice is located at 61 S. Kihei Road in Kihei.

Books can be purchased at all Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice shops and online at waikapupublishing.com.

Art festivals return to Lahaina mall

The Lahaina Arts Society’s art festivals will resume at the Lahaina Cannery Mall every weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning this Saturday and Sunday.

Artists will display paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photography and prints on the lawn outside of the mall’s Starbucks store.

Open call for young artists, authors

The Maui County Sister Cities Foundation is extending an open call to local youth artists, authors and musicians to submit works for the Sister Cities International’s Young Artists and Authors Showcase.

The submission deadline is April 15.

Students ages 13 to 18 are invited to submit an art, music or poetry piece in one of six entry categories.

With the theme of “United in Hope,” this year’s showcase is designed to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category; students may only enter one piece in one category. The first prize-winning Maui County works will be submitted to the Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors Showcase and will be eligible for cash prizes. Winners will be announced on April 23.
