An injured swimmer was airlifted to medics after he suffered a possible back injury after reportedly jumping off a 40-foot waterfall into a pond Wednesday at Twin Falls in Haiku, the Maui Fire Department reported.

Paia firefighters and Kahului rescue firefighters aboard the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter responded to the call at 1:16 p.m.

Paia firefighters hiked to the swimmer’s location and packaged the patient before the helicopter arrived to airlift the patient to waiting medics.

The 40-year-old Oakland, Calif., resident was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition with back pain, the Fire Department reported.
