Man arrested for travel rule violation

A Kaunakakai man was arrested Wednesday for violating travel quarantine rules after arriving on Molokai from Oahu, police said.

Pukanala Alcon, 41, was charged with violating public health emergency rules.

He was arrested after a traffic stop when police learned there was a bench warrant for his arrest, police said.

Upon further investigation, police confirmed that Alcon had traveled from Oahu to Molokai on Tuesday and didn’t have an approved negative pre-travel COVID-19 test, police said. He was required to complete the mandatory 10-day travel quarantine.

Alcon was transported to the Molokai Police Station for processing and was released after posting $27,000 bail.
