Plane crashes, flips over on landing

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of a crash Saturday morning when a Cessna Skyhawk plane flipped over on a dirt access road near the runway while landing at Lanai Airport.

Lanai patrol officers responded to the crash reported at 11:20 a.m.

Police said the trainer pilot, who was alone in the plane, was able to get out. The pilot was treated by medics on scene and released.

The single-engine plane sustained substantial damage, according to an FAA report.

The plane crashed on landing, veered off the runway and flipped over, according to the report.

FAA records show the plane is registered to Lani Lea Sky Tours in Honolulu.
