211 citations issued in Click It or Ticket

Police traffic officers issued 211 citations for seat belt violations last week as part of the nationwide Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign.

The citations were among 465 issued from May 31 to Friday during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awareness and enforcement event.

Police also gave out 139 citations to drivers using cellphones or other mobile electronic devices, 17 citations for child passenger restraint violations and three citations for passengers riding in pickup truck beds despite open seats in the cab.

Twenty-two citations were issued for moving violations.

Police also gave 29 warning citations.

In addition, officers made two arrests of drivers who were under the influence of an intoxicant and 19 other arrests for various offenses.

Police plan to continue enforcement of traffic violations.

A seat belt violation carries a fine of $102. The fine for driving while using a mobile electronic device is $297.
