A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when he was ejected onto the roadway in a collision with a pickup truck Sunday night on North Kihei Road, police said.

The crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. near Milepost 2, south of Honoapiilani Highway.

Police said a black 2007 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was backing into the southbound lane of North Kihei Road when it was struck on its right side by a red 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling south. After the initial collision, the Nissan Frontier was pushed back onto the shoulder of the road, where it hit the front of a parked tan 1995 Chevrolet van, police said.

The motorcycle operator, a 63-year-old Kihei man, was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room in critical condition, police said.

The 63-year-old Makawao man driving the Nissan Frontier didn’t report any injuries, but his front-seat passenger, a 56-year-old Wailuku man, suffered injuries that weren’t life threatening, police said.

An investigation is continuing.
