West Maui under brown water advisory
A brown water advisory has been issued from Honolua Bay to Kaanapali after heavy rains sent stormwater runoff into coastal waters, the state Department of Health announced Monday afternoon.
The department advised the public to stay out of floodwaters and stormwater runoff due to possible pathogens, chemicals and flood debris. While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, beachgoers should stay out if the water is brown.
The department also advised that people follow up with their primary care physicians if they have any health concerns.
