Car seat safety checks available

Free virtual one-on-one car seat checks will be available on Saturday as part of Child Passenger Safety Week and National Seat Check Saturday.

The virtual car seat safety checks will take place from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. by appointment. Technicians will help ensure car seats are installed and used properly. They will also determine if a child is in the right seat for their age and size.

To make an appointment, call (808) 527-2588.

The state Department of Transportation is encouraging all parents and caregivers of young children to double check their child’s car seat or booster seat and ensure that it’s the correct seat for their children’s age and size and that it is installed correctly.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children nationwide, and the latest research shows that nearly half or 46 percent of car seats are misused.
