Man hospitalized after truck tops fence

A 42-year-old man was taken via medevac to Maui Memorial Medical Center Tuesday after the pickup truck he was driving ended up on the top of a wire fence along Hana Highway, police said on Wednesday.

Police did not provide the man’s condition but said the driver did not display any signs of impairment.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when police responded to an area of Mile Marker 28 on Hana Highway regarding a single motor vehicle accident.

Officers found a pickup truck on top of a wire fence, with the driver still within the vehicle. An off-duty Maui firefighter who arrived on the scene shortly after the accident was providing aid to the driver.

Due to damages, Maui Fire Department personnel had to extricate the driver from the vehicle before he was treated on scene by paramedic personnel, police said.

The driver was later transported to Hana Airport, then taken Maui Memorial.
