Waves of 12 to 16 feet expected
A high surf advisory is in effect for north and west-facing shores of Molokai and Maui until 6 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
A north-northwest swell was expected to gradually lower Friday night, then steadily decrease over the weekend, producing waves of 12 to 16 feet, the weather service said.
Strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents could make swimming difficult and dangerous, the weather service warned. Beachgoers should listen to ocean safety officials, exercise caution and know their limits.
