Woman who hid drugs in bra has bail maintained
WAILUKU — Bail was kept at $10,000 for a Lanai woman who was arrested after she allegedly was found with drugs in her bra.
Samantha Sunio, 34, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug on Feb. 12.
During a hearing Friday in 2nd Circuit Court, Sunio asked to be released from jail on supervision.
She reported being in a sober living program, said Deputy Public Defender Heather Wolfenbarger. She said several family members had been in the courtroom gallery when Sunio was arraigned earlier in the week.
Deputy Prosecutor Joanne Hicks asked for bail to remain at $10,000.
She said more than 3 grams of methamphetamine was seized from Sunio, who was in a vehicle that was the target of a police search warrant.
Hicks said Sunio revealed that she had the drugs in her bra.
“She indicated she is involved with giving her boyfriend money so they can buy more drugs and then sell them,” Hicks said. “That is involvement in drug distribution activity. The state finds that very concerning.”
Second Circuit Judge Blaine Kobayashi kept bail at $10,000 for Sunio, who appeared by videoconference from Maui Community Correctional Center for the hearing.
In another case, Sunio is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail on charges of attempted first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug on March 14, 2020.
