Appliance recycling set for Hana Landfill

Residents can drop off appliances to be recycled from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 4 to 6 at the Hana Landfill on Waikoloa Road.

The county Department of Emergency Management is hosting the recycling only for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, water coolers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges or stoves, water heaters, microwaves, automotive batteries, propane tanks and up to five automotive tires per household.

Service is first come, first served; appointments are not required.

No business drop-offs will be accepted. Unacceptable loads and items will be turned away. Collection will continue until all containers have been filled, so the event may end earlier than scheduled.

Loads of loose scrap metal and electronics won’t be accepted. Another drop-off event for scrap metal is tentatively set for the first quarter of next year.

Residents are asked to wear masks and to remain in their vehicles until staff has completed a check-in and recyclables are unloaded.

More information is available by calling the county Abandoned Vehicles & Metals Hotline at (808) 270-6102.
