Charter Commission to meet Thursday
The Maui Charter Commission will meet virtually at 9 a.m. Thursday to hear testimony and to continue to deliberate on proposed charter amendments regarding planning.
If time permits, the commission may also hear testimony and deliberate on amendments related to police, including increasing public accountability by making the police commission more independent and enabling greater citizen oversight.
Discussion on planning will include several charter amendment proposals that significantly alter how planning commissions function, such as making commission membership an elected position versus a mayoral appointment.
To learn about the proposals, see www.mauicounty.gov/CharterCommission.
During the meeting, testimony will be accepted via video or by telephone. Written testimony is also accepted and may be sent to Charter.Commission@mauicounty.gov.
