Charter panel talks boards, commissions
The Maui Charter Commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to take up remaining proposals under general provisions and boards/commissions.
Remaining items under “Theme F” include proposals to change the selection process and requirements for people serving on the county’s 32 boards and commissions.
Following the remaining topics, the commission will take up “Theme G,” on planning.
Proposals include having a planning commission for every community plan area and making the planning commission membership by election rather than mayoral appointment.
Review of “Theme G” will likely also be carried over to a future meeting, the news release said.
The commission is reviewing charter amendments that could be placed on the general election ballot in November 2022. The County Charter establishes the structure and organization of the county’s government.
