Firefighters contained a fire Tuesday that burned about 2 acres of heavy brush below Apau Place in Makawao.

Fire crews responding to the 1:42 p.m. call found the area was difficult to access, so helicopters were called to support firefighters on the ground.

The fire, which burned in moderate winds of 5 to 15 mph, was contained at 3:54 p.m. and was expected to be extinguished by nightfall, according to the Maui Fire Department.

The cause was under investigation.

Makawao, Paia and Kahului engine companies responded, along with a Kahului hazmat company, tankers from Kahului, Lahaina and Wailea and two helicopters.
