Kahului reaches record-low cold

Temperatures in Kahului dipped to 60 degrees on Thursday, tying the old record set on the same day in 2013, according to the National Weather Service.

Honolulu, meanwhile, reached 87 degrees, tying its record for the highest temperature set on the same day in 1983.

The weather service also issued a high surf advisory for Maui and Molokai through 6 a.m. today as a northwest swell begins to fall, taking waves below advisory levels by this morning.

Surf of up to 15 feet was expected Friday night along north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui, with a steady decline through early today. Waves were predicted to reach up to 12 feet Friday night along west-facing shores of Molokai and also decline early today.
