Power outage reported Monday

About 6,700 customers in parts of Upcountry, Haiku and East Maui lost power Monday afternoon when a piece of electrical equipment broke near West Kuiaha Road in Haiku, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman said.

The outage occurred at 1:15 p.m., with some customers restored by 3:10 p.m., said spokeswoman Shayna Decker.

She said crews were continuing to work on repairs to safely restore power as quickly as possible to the remaining customers Monday afternoon.
