Haleakala reopens after storm closure

The Summit and Kipahulu districts of Haleakala National Park reopened on Tuesday morning after closing due to strong winds and severe weather over the weekend.

Kipahulu District hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Summit District is always open, though sunrise reservations are required from 3 to 7 a.m.

The park closed Sunday afternoon due to severe weather. Sunrise reservations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday were canceled.

Drivers coming into the park should use caution on roadways, a park news release warned.
