Kipahulu District of park to close

The Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park will be temporarily closed on Saturday and Sunday.

The closure is due to a complete road closure by the county Department of Public Works along Hana Highway about 1.5 miles east of the park entrance, according to a news release.

There will be no vehicular access to the Kipahulu District from Hana during the road closure and emergency services would be delayed and likely unavailable within the park.

The closure is to ensure visitor and employee safety.

The Kipahulu District will re-open at 9 a.m. Monday. The Summit District of Haleakala National Park remains open.
