UHMC Christmas plant sale set

The University of Hawaii Maui College Agriculture and Natural Resources Department will hold its annual Christmas plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the UH-Maui College greenhouse.

Eleven varieties of poinsettias and a selection of native Hawaiian plants will be for sale. Raw local honey harvested by student beekeepers and select vegetables from the GoFarmHawaii student farm will also be for sale. To access the plant sale, enter the UH-Maui College campus by the recycling center on Wahinepio Avenue across from the Keopuolani Park entrance. Park in the parking lot and enter the greenhouse from the parking lot side.

Event to feature space entrepreneur

Privateer Space CEO and Chairman Alex Fielding will be the guest speaker at the virtual Maui TechOhana event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Fielding will talk about his journey of self-discovery and what led him to found Privateer Space, a company that will create the first accurate map of objects, including satellites, in lower Earth orbits and develop innovative green space technologies.

Fielding’s lifelong interest in solving difficult technical problems also inspired him to start Ripcord, a company that uses robotics and deep machine learning to digitize, organize and make data accessible and searchable.

Chocolate tasting to benefit MNMRC

Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will be the beneficiary of a guided chocolate tasting event at Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate in Lahaina at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The hour-long chocolate tasting will be led by Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate CEO Gunars Valkirs. Attendees will sample at least nine varieties of chocolate and learn how cacao is locally grown in Lahaina.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Maui Nui Marine Resource Council, which works to protect Maui’s nearshore coral reefs and ocean water quality.

Gardeners to host plant sale Saturday

The Maui Master Gardener program will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the Cooperative Extension Service parking lot on the University of Hawaii Maui College campus.

There will be a large selection of succulents, vegetables and foliage plants for sale. Attendees can also sign up for the 2022 Maui Master Gardener class at the event.
